Dr. Ben Springer Current position: Director of Special Education 2021-22 Position: Psychology and Behavior, District Office
Dr. Ben Springer grew up in Salt Lake County, where he graduated from Bingham High School in 1997. He holds a Bachelor of Science, Master’s of Arts and Ph.D. – all from the University of Utah. His career in education spans 19 years, with eight years in Wasatch, and roles that included Art Teacher, Special Educator, Autism Specialist, Early Intervention Specialist, School Psychologist, and Behavior Specialist. The son of two lifelong educators, Dr. Springer lives in Heber with his wife and four daughters. Regarding Wasatch, he notes, “I am most proud to be a part of Wasatch because it seems to be a place where tradition meets innovation. In other words, educators and leaders in Wasatch believe in common sense, traditional methods but are open to progressive ideas and innovation.”
Dr. Springer’s Educational Philosophy: “My Educational Philosophy is a ‘greatest hits’ mix of scholars and philosophies associated with John Locke, Jean-Jaques Rousseau, Jean Piaget, Lev Vygotsky, Martin Seligman, and Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. What exactly does that mean? I am a scientist, a visionary, and an optimist. I believe education should result in analytical minds, creative exercises, and optimistic outlooks.
