Jonathan Welling selected as a Local PhysTEC Teacher of the Year!
Congratulations to Wasatch High School physics teacher, Jonathan Welling, on being selected as a Local PhysTEC Teacher of the Year!
The distinction was based on Mr. Welling’s contributions to physics education as being significant and impactful on the students, colleagues, school district, and state at a time when the nation is in desperate need of qualified physics teachers. Of the approximately 1400 new teachers who are hired to teach physics each year, only 35% have a degree in physics or physics education and in 2018, the American Association of Employment in Education found high school physics teachers to be in “considerable shortage.” As such, PhysTEC has identified Mr. Welling’s contributions as highly valued and respected.
The PhysTEC Teacher of the Year program recognizes outstanding high school physics educators who demonstrate the impact and value of physics teacher preparation programs. Each year, PhysTEC member institutions submit their recommendations to the selection committee, and one National Teacher of the Year and several local teachers of the year are selected.
Thank you, Mr. Welling, for embodying the District’s #ExpectToExcel mantra, and for helping the students at Wasatch High School to achieve high levels of learning! #WeAreWasatch
