WHS JROTC Advances to Second Round of Academic Bowl
On November 20th, cadets from Wasatch High School Air Force Junior ROTC put their minds to the test in the Level 1 Academic Bowl competition. The JROTC Leadership & Academic Bowl (JLAB) is a nationally recognized academic competition created exclusively for JROTC students. By participating, cadets learn the values of citizenship, academic competition, and college opportunity. In an online environment with only 30 or 60 seconds to answer each question, cadets tested their knowledge of JROTC curriculum, Math, Science, English and current events. For the first time, cadets from Wasatch, competing in Division 3 (based on school size), advanced to Level II with a score of 86%. The top 50% of all schools competing advance to the next round and this year the cut off score was 79%, with 490 units participating in Level I. The cadets now must continue their studies for Level II, which will be held 1-15 Feb 2020. The top 8 teams in the division from Level II will advance to the championship round in Washington DC, where they will compete against JROTC units from the Air Force, Navy, Army and Marines for top academic honors. The cadets on this year’s Wasatch team are: Juniors Hunter Patterson and Hanna Farra, Sophomores Donovan Harr and Jacob Jenkins, and Freshman Jeff Drury and Meg Harris. Congratulations on a job well done and good luck in Level II.
