Heading into the final race of the 2019 5A state girls swim meet at BYU on Saturday afternoon, Timpview and Wasatch both knew the stakes.

The Thunderbirds trailed the Wasps by 10 points but had the best 400-yard freestyle relay team.

If Timpview did what was expected and won, then the team championship would come down to how Wasatch did.

The Wasps were seeded fifth but knew a fourth-place finish would result in a tie atop the standings. A better finish would give Wasatch the title, while falling behind that mark would give the crown to the Thunderbirds.

“It was stressful,” Wasatch senior Claire Kieffer said. “They told us before that we had to move up at least one place and then we would win a state title.”
