One of the greatest American success stories is the yellow school bus.  It has a safety record unequaled in any of the transportation industries.  In comparison per 100,000,000 passenger miles the passenger car had 0.94 deaths, airlines had 0.06 deaths, passenger trains had 0.04 deaths, and the school buses had 0.01 deaths.
There is no safer way to transport a child than in a school bus.  Fatal crashes involving school bus occupants are extremely rare events, even though school buses serve daily in every community.  The Transportation Research Board of the National Academy of Sciences estimates that every year more than 800 school-aged children are killed as occupants in other motor vehicles or as pedestrians or bicyclists during "normal school transport hours."  Most of these deaths could be prevented if children rode in school buses.  Parents need to know that driving a child to school-or allowing them to ride to school with other teenagers-is not a safety smart decision-hands down, the school bus is the safest way to and from school.

School bus drivers have made the Yellow School Bus the largest and safest transportation system in the country and are deserving of our thanks. By understanding the value of student transportation to our education system, Love the Bus promotes the idea that every person involved in our schools is critical to our children’s success.

Wasatch County School District Transportation Department:
New Levels of Safety, Service, Security through ZONAR

For school districts to meet their educational objectives, students must be transported safely and on time.  It is a lot harder than it seems.  It’s not just a logistical challenge, keeping the buses, drivers and students on the move-it’s also a communication, cost and compliance challenge.

Zonar, a recent transportation software purchase,  is a high definition GPS and vehicle diagnostics system that will provide our district with an innovative new tool for increasing safety and efficiency, simplifying fleet operations, improving regulatory compliance and reducing fuel costs.

“We are very excited about our new software purchase at transportation,” commented Transportation Supervisor, Kris Allen.    “The new software will provide us with an improved level of vehicle data through a unique ‘Inspect, Track, and Know’ approach.  The results will bring us to a new level of productivity, of which the bottom line will be both safety and savings.”
