The purpose of professional development is to ensure that every educator engages in effective professional learning every day so every student achieves.

Professional development is based on the following vision:
    • Diversity enriches but requires system support
    • Begin with ambitious learning goals
    • Create conditions for collaboration; learning with colleagues
    • Students learn when adults learn
In Wasatch District, professional development focuses on four components:
    • Professional Learning Communities
    • Diversity
    • Numeracy
    • Literacy
Schools, teachers and administrators, are to develop school wide goals that focus on the four components. Teams are to develop team goals that focus on the school's professional development plan. Individual teachers are to develop individual goals that focus on the team and school's professional development plan. All teachers will discuss their individual goals with their administrators at the beginning of the year and report their progress throughout the year.
