I am so excited to be teaching here at Wasatch High School! I grew up in Centerville (you might know where it is if you know where Lagoon is) and I loved it... but I truly am so excited to be up here in Heber with all of you! I have been dancing since I was 3 years old. I danced in studios, on companies, and on teams as well. I danced my way through college and graduated from UVU with a BFA in Performance Dance and a BS in Dance Education. I was so fortunate to work with many incredible choreographers at UVU and to choreograph my own dances as well. I love boating, penny boarding, watching movies, eating;) and dancing (shocker, I know). And I can't wait to dance with all of you!!

I know that dancing can seem like such an unfamiliar or scary idea for many. Know that the dance studio is a safe place where we can all explore life and dance together and... ANYBODY CAN DANCE!! I'm sure you see dance on social media at least once a day, in some form. A happy dance, a dancing dog or baby, a tik tok dance... it's everywhere!

Dance 1: This is a beginning dance class. It is designed to introduce high school students to various forms of dance with an emphasis on dance as an art form. (This is not a social dance or ballroom class.) We will touch on many different genres of dance such as: African(rhythms & stomping), ballet, jazz/contemporary, and hip hop/urban dance.

Dance 2: This is a beginning/intermediate dance class. It is designed to introduce high school students to various forms of dance with an emphasis on dance as an art form. (This is not a social dance class.) In this class we will continue to build on what we learned in dance 1. This class furthers what you learned in dance 1. You will be graded based on the mastery of the different units: Technique, Meaning in Dance, Combination Unit, Improvisation & Choreography, and Concert Choreography. This class gets to create and perform in the spring dance concert!

Dance 3: This is an advanced dance class. This class will mainly focus on developing a student's choreographic movement style. You will be graded based on the mastery of the different units Technique & Skills, Historic Choreographers, Improvisation & Choreography, Dance in Technology and Concert Choreography. This class will also create and perform in the dance concerts.

Social Dance: is dancing done for the social aspect, it is more of a participation based dance style than a performance based dance style. In this class we will stay socially distanced as we learn many different social dances. These are a few you may have heard of: cha cha, salsa, and waltz. We will also learn different line dances (The electric slide, Boot Scootin' Boogie, etc) as well as dances that are more current and relevant to today. Social dance is ever evolving and there is such an abundance right at our fingertips!

I look forward to seeing you in the studio!
