Mission Statement
To inspire a love of learning by providing a high-quality preschool experience in an inclusive environment.
Program Description
The preschool program enrolls students, ages 3-5, maintaining a low teacher-to-child ratio, in an inclusive preschool environment. Each elementary school, Daniels Canyon Elementary, Heber Valley Elementary, Midway Elementary, JR Smith Elementary, and Old Mill Elementary, houses 2 preschool classrooms. The students are supported by certified, licensed teacher and paraprofessionals. Preschool follows Wasatch County School District calendar, and it is in session four days/week, Tuesday-Friday for 2.5 hours each day. There is an option for a morning or afternoon session running from 8:40-11:20 or 12:40-3:20 depending on availability (session times vary due to transportation and school bell schedules). Tuition is due monthly and rates vary depending on families’ financial status.
Curriculum and Assessment
A balance between child-directed learning and explicit instruction is supported by providing environments and interactions that promote learning to meet the individual needs of students. The evidence-based curriculum, Connect4Learning, is implemented in all preschool classrooms providing students the opportunity to engage in project-based learning opportunities through meaningful learning experiences. An online portal is available for parents to monitor student learning. All students are assessed using formative, curriculum-based assessments as well as formal assessment through the Developmental Observational Tool, given three times a year. Parents are informed of their students’ progress through progress reports and parent-teacher conferences. Four-year-old students are assessed using the Preschool Entry Exit Profile (PEEP) at the beginning and the end of their final preschool year.
