    Grading Policy

The middle school math departments at both Rocky Mountain Middle School and Timpanogos Middle School are committed to providing academic grades that are an accurate representation of what students actually know and what they need to work on. 80 percent of the grade in sixth grade math will be based on assessments that measure mastery. Other classroom assignments and learning projects, as determined by each teacher, will contribute to the other 20 percent of the academic grade.

Students will have multiple opportunities to show mastery on these assessments and raise their academic grade. It is the student’s responsibility to complete retakes. All retake tests need to be submitted no later than Wednesday before the End of Term to be included in the grade for the term. Missing tests may result in an Incomplete. Other assignments may have earlier deadlines in the term as determined by the teacher.

Behavior, attendance, and work habits will be reported separately from academic achievement on the citizenship grade. Please help your student understand that these behaviors will impact their learning and, therefore, their academic achievement.

Attendance Policy                                                                                                                        Students should be in class, seated each day by the time the bell rings. Students should come to class prepared, with all supplies. The students are responsible to make up missed content and assignments on their own time when absent. All work is available digitally, students should check their OneNote or send me an email about any assignment. Missing assignments must be completed in a timely manner.

    Math Curriculum

We will use Pearson Digital Curriculum-Envision 2.0. The lessons will be delivered in class every day, digitally, with instruction and guidance from the teacher.  This program can be accessed from any computer using the student’s login information. Some of the topics we will be learning about this year include: Positive Rational Numbers, Integers, Numeric and Algebraic Expressions, Solving Equations and Inequalities, Ratios, Rates, and Percents, Area, Surface Area, and Volume, Summarize Data.

Honors Class                                                                                 In this class, the same content will be covered, however, we will be delving deeper into problem solving techniques and tasks.  The expectations for this class are more rigorous and the students are required to keep at least a C or higher and will be monitored each term.  If the student drops below this requirement, the teacher has the option to move them to a different class. There will also be an Honors Project REQUIRED for the students to complete each term, as well. This project will require an additional 5-6 hours of time outside of class. There will be a new project each term. This assignment will allow the students will apply their knowledge and understanding of the Essential Skills and concepts we have worked on in class to show mastery. Students will begin the assignment after the first week of school. **Optional** If a student is not in the Honors class, but would like to receive Honors credit, they can complete the Honors project, as well. **Please contact/email Mrs. Jones for more information about this option (if you are not in the Honors class.)

    One-to-One Computers/IPAD

Students will be expected to have their computers at school every day.  They will need to be fully charged.  Failure to be prepared with a fully charged computer could result in a referral for lunch detention, depending on the frequency of this occurrence.

    Homework

Students can expect to have homework nightly.  Class time is allowed for most assignments.  However, if the student does not finish work in class it will be homework.

    SIS System
