    Courses: English and Geography

I was born and raised in a small town in Oregon called Vida. My father was a songwriter, and we didn’t need to live near civilization, so our house was in the middle of the woods next to a river. It was pretty magical.

I wasn’t a very successful student in high school, mostly because I wasn’t involved and didn’t think it mattered. Luckily, I had a friend who’s older sister had gone to Israel with BYU’s Study Abroad. I wanted to go more than anything and decided to apply to college, instead of moving to Colorado to snowboard and to be a waitress. It was the best thing that could have happened to me. I was admitted to BYU-Hawaii, where I realized I LOVED to learn (I also loved scuba diving every weekend and walking to school on the beach).
I’m so glad that I didn’t give up on school. I did well enough to transfer to BYU and get into the Jerusalem program, which changed my life (three years later I married a boy I met there!). When I returned home, I decided to serve a mission and was called to the Germany Frankfurt mission. Three months after returning home, I married the boy from the Jerusalem program and started at BYU.
After graduation, I worked in several different jobs to put my husband through law school (executive assistant, project manager, customer service for a software company…a lot of cubicles and traffic) and when he finished, I decided to become a teacher in the hopes of saving kids like me from throwing away precious opportunities in life by giving up on school.
Ironically, I love teaching. I have taught English, German, law, current events, geography, and US History. We welcomed our first child to the family in May of 2011 and are loving his toothy smiles and wear ourselves ragged trying to keep up with him.  In my free time I like to do anything outdoors, including hiking, rock climbing, horseback riding, snowboarding, and camping. I also love to read and cook.
I still love to learn, and I hope you will too!
