School History
The building that houses Timpanogos Intermediate School is in its fourth configuration since it was built. The school was dedicated in 1976 and opened its doors as Wasatch Junior High School. The seventh, eighth and ninth grade students of Wasatch County School District attended the school.
Three years later, the district made a change in the school configuration. The ninth grade students were moved into the high school and the sixth grade students came to this building. The school was renamed Wasatch Middle School and housed the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. The mascot was "The Dragons." This configuration lasted for 21 years.
During those years, many changes were made to the building. Two additions were added on to the building in order to accommodate the growing number of students in the district. Other changes took place inside the building over the years, in order to make room for additional classes and programs.
In the fall of 2000, the district once again made a change and the sixth and seventh grades were moved to the new Rocky Mountain Middle School. The ninth grade was moved back in to this building to share space with the eighth grade. The name chosen for the school was Wasatch Mountain Junior High, with "The Timberwolves" as the school mascot.
The number of students continued to grow in the valley and the district built a new high school in order to keep up with the growth. With the construction of a new and bigger high school, it was decided to once again move the ninth grade into that facility. The eighth grade students were to be moved to Rocky Mountain Middle School to join the seventh graders. The sixth grade students were to come back to this building, along with the fifth graders. It was to become an intermediate school.
A great amount of work went on in the building during the summer of 2009, to update the building and to add some facilities that were needed to house the new grades. The upgrades brightened the halls and better equipped the rooms to handle the needs of the teachers. In the fall of 2009, Timpanogos Intermediate School opened its doors.
We are excited to be in this building. It has lots of history and lots of potential. The 5th and 6th graders of Wasatch County can attend school here for many years to come, with the assurance that they will receive the best education possible.
